Comforts do not surround Jannah

The moment a life comes into existence, it comes into a world full of trials. Every moment of a human life is a test of one kind or another.

Allaah (SWT) tests us to enable us to enter His Jannah. His Jannah is beautiful beyond comparison!

The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: “When Allah created Paradise, He said to Jibreel: ‘Go and look at it.’ Jibreel went and looked at it, then came and said: ‘O my Lord! By Thy might, no one who hears of it will fail to enter it.’

Allah then surrounded it with disagreeable things, and said: ‘Go and look at it, Jibreel.’ He went and looked at it, then came and said: ‘O my Lord! By Thy might, I am afraid that no one will enter it.’

When Allah created Hell, He said: ‘Go and look at it, Jibreel.’ Jibreel went and looked at it, then came and said: ‘O my Lord! By Thy might, no one who hears of it will enter it. ‘

Allah then surrounded it with desirable things and said: ‘Go and look at it, Jibreel.’ Jibreel went, looked at it, then came and said: ‘O my Lord! By Thy might and power, I am afraid that no one will remain who does not enter it.’

[Hadith, Abu Daud]

Jannah is surrounded with hardships and confusions. Charity, sadaqa, well-wishing, kindness, chastity, honesty, justice, refraining from the prohibited, doing whole-heartedly the obligatory, controlling and fighting with one’s nafs etc surround Jannah - gradually making it difficult to attain.

Whereas the Hell Fire is surrounded with beautiful irresistible temptations. Do what your heart says and live only for the pleasure in this world and it will slowly push you into the Hell Fire (Allaah forbid it!).

Those surroundings of Jannah seem to us huge complicated problems.  These complications in our lives are actually the tests from Allaah (SWT) which, if we clear them successfully, take us closer to Jannah. There is never a problem without a solution. It is just that we sometimes solve them in a wrong way and further complicate things for ourselves.

Whenever confronted with a difficulty we should remind ourselves that it is a trial from Allaah (SWT) and He alone can provide ease. Solution to all our problems lies in patience and prayers. Allaah never disappoints a sincere heart that calls Him and asks from Him. Sometimes, the solution to our problems lies in fulfilling a command of Allaah (SWT), even if it goes against our desires - perhaps making life uncomfortable for us. But then, remember - Comforts do not surround Jannah!
